Our Story
In May of 1983, Pastor Michael Johnson graduated from Hyles-Anderson College and felt that God was calling him to start a church in Redding, California. That vision became reality when Shasta Baptist Church held its first service in Anderson, California on August 7, 1983. Though the location of the church building has changed several times, the message that has been preached has never changed. In December 2005, we moved to our current location on Westside Road.
Pastor Mark Becker was saved as a nine-year-old boy at a small country church under the preaching of Pastor Steve Nichols. As a young boy, God continued to work on his heart as he surrendered his life to preach. God led Pastor Becker to attend Golden State Baptist College where he met his wife, Bethany. They graduated in 2005.
After graduation, Pastor and Mrs. Becker were married and moved to Redding, California to work at Shasta Baptist Church. Pastor and Mrs. Becker worked with the teens for eighteen years, investing in the next generation. After pastoring for 40 years, the Lord was leading Pastor Johnson to retire. The Lord then confirmed on Pastor Becker’s heart the call to pastor and the church voted him in as pastor. Pastor and Mrs. Becker have three children
Shasta Baptist Church is a church that is friendly and focused on re-establishing the home and church the way God intended them to be. God has worked through our church over these many years to see many people saved, baptized, and their lives changed for the glory of God.
